A brief history..

History
Monkey has been around in some form or other since November of 1990. That's when I first got my 286 and the Coherent operating system. (Coherent's a now-defunct UNIX clone). By December it was answering the phone line, and took
over from the Mac-based StevenBBS which was running before.
Apple Computer, office of Erik E. Fair, generously forwarded mail for monkey. At that time, mail could reach me as apple!monkey!root.
I have a printout of an email from February of 1991 at least, that
actually made it to someone else.
Eventually I registered the system as monkey.sj.ca.us. March of 1992?
Monkey became part of SBAY.ORG.
In January of 1996, I installed a 24-hour dedicated link to the Internet through TLG, with my own class C subnet. This is
206.14.206.XXX (with .1 being monkey). This was confirmed up by Jan 13, probably by Jan 8. TLG was bought by BEST.COM and then by VERIO.COM. Funny how
service seems to go downhill the larger/older a provider gets.
Now monkey has almost 30 active users and a 24-hour dedicated link to the Internet.
May of 2000, I am shutting down monkey.
